Welcome to BruinsClaw - located halfway between Timmins
and Smooth Rock, Ontario, Canada.
BruinsClaw consists of an area approximately 500 square miles.
This area was allocated for the first time in August of 2001 and consists
of numerous rivers, lakes, swamps and streams creating an excellent habitat
for all wildlife, especially Black Bears.
When I obtained this area in the fall of 2001 the area consisted of an
existing BMA 100 km/sq and
800 km/sq of area which had never been open to non-resident Black Bear
hunting. The original BMA portion had not been harvested since 1994.
In the fall of 2006, I obtained an additional area which now brings the
total area to 500 sq miles. As a result this has provided me with an area
that quite simply will provide you with the opportunity to hunt prime trophy
Black Bear territory. This area has had virtually no hunting pressure
(Non Residents represent 90% of Bear Hunters in Ontario) resulting in a
mature Bear population and true trophy potential.
I only take in a limited number of hunters each year to ensure that the
trophy potential remains high. I accomplish this by adhering to a strict
harvest program. The Ontario Ministry of Natural Recourses has stipulated
that a harvest of one Bear per 30 sq/km of BMA falls within one responsible
Bear management. As a result I will not under any circumstances over-harvest
at BruinsClaw. This will guarantee quality hunts for the future.
The Hunt
Each hunt is a week in duration. Guests will arrive on the Saturday at a
prearranged pick-up location in Timmins, Ontario at 3:00 PM.
Once you arrive, I will meet you and take care of any last minute shopping
and license purchase. Then I will escort you the rest of the way to camp,
approximately another hour drive. Once at camp, you will be provided with a
light meal and briefing.
Hunting will commence the following evening and continue through the
week. I will take each hunter into his or her stands. I will also take
care of all the baiting. Once I place you in your stand (there are multiple
stands to choose from) it is up to you.
Be patient - the first bear is not always the best bear.
Once you harvest your animal, I will take care of the retrieval, hide
preparation and meat preparation.
Departure will be the following Saturday. This schedule should be
followed in order to provide you with the ability to register your harvested
animal and obtain your export permit.
